Poultry Vaccination

Our Vaccination Program

  • Marek’s Disease & Fowlpox
    All of our chicks are vaccinated at day old for both Marek’s and Fowlpox. These essential vaccines are administered offsite.
  • Coccidiosis
    Protection against Coccidiosis is also provided at day old, helping prevent one of the most common and harmful diseases in young poultry. This vaccine is available to all of our customers with their chicks, simply make an appointment and bring them out to the farm.
  • Infectious Coryza
    To safeguard your flock as they grow, we also offer vaccination against Infectious Coryza. This vaccine is given in two stages:
    • First dose at 8 weeks of age
    • Booster dose at 12 weeks of age

Why Vaccinate?

Vaccination plays a vital role in preventing disease outbreaks and ensuring strong, healthy birds. By investing in early protection, you’re not only improving the welfare of your chickens but also saving yourself from potential losses and setbacks.

Vaccination Costs

All vaccines are $2 per bird, per vaccine.

  • Coccidiosis (day old): $2 each
  • Infectious Coryza (8 weeks): $2 each
  • Infectious Coryza (12 weeks booster): $2 each

Vent Sexing

At one day old all of our chicks are vent sexed to determine the gender of the chick. This is done offsite. The females are then kept separately from the males so when you buy chicks you know you are getting girls and will eventually end up with some home grown eggs! Vent sexing is approximately 90% accurate so there is a small chance you could end up with a boy however here at GHC if you do end up with a boy – we will happily swap it over for a girl. We do not always have the exact breed at the exact age and in that case we would replace with another sexed female chick or possibly a different breed of a similar age.

We do keep some males coming through however this is not the case every week so if you are wanting a male chick, best to let us know in advance so we make sure we keep him for you.

Egg incubation

GHC Offers an egg Incubation Service, you just deliver your fertile eggs to our farm any Friday (by appointment) – we recommend for the eggs to be no more than 10 days old. We will incubate them, candle them at 10 days and let you know what the fertility is like, and hatch them separately from our own. You can then choose to collect them straight away which would be on a Monday morning, or I can have them sexed and vaccinated for an additional charge.

Egg Incubation – $2 per egg

Vaccinating – $1.50 per chick
Vent Sexing – $1.50 per chick

Poultry Feed

Feeding your chickens the right diet from the very beginning plays a huge role in their overall health and wellbeing. A good quality feed supports steady growth, strong immune systems, and happy, thriving birds. As chicks grow, their nutritional needs change, so choosing the correct feed at each stage helps set them up for a long and productive life.
We only sell unmedicated poultry feed, and this is a very intentional choice. All of our chicks are vaccinated for coccidiosis, meaning they are already protected against this common disease. Using medicated feed alongside a coccidiosis vaccine can reduce the effectiveness of the vaccine by preventing chicks from building their own natural immunity. By feeding unmedicated feed, vaccinated chicks can safely develop strong, lasting protection as nature intended.
Our chicks are fed Chick Starter from day old through to around 8 weeks of age, giving them everything they need for healthy early growth. After this, they move onto Pullet Grower for approximately another 12 weeks, supporting steady development as they grow toward point of lay. We stock both feeds in convenient 3kg bags of Chick Starter and Pullet Grower, perfect for backyard flocks and small-scale keepers. By combining vaccinated chicks with quality unmedicated feed, you can feel confident you’re giving your birds the very best start in life

We try to offer transportation options to as many locations as we can, some of these runs are done by us here at GHC – others are done by teaming up with a wonderful pet transport company called Raggy’s Pet Transport. The transport cost to each location covers up to 10 chicks (day old – 2 weeks old) or 6 pullets (6-8 weeks old).
We do try to do a run to each location at least once a month, however this can change based on availability.

Chick Hatching Program

Perfect for home , school or daycare !
We provide everything you need to hatch the chicks, including: Delivery, Setup, Instruction, and any backup support that is needed.

Upon delivery , you will be supplied with a small transparent incubator with a mix of 12 large heritage breed, fertile egg inside. The chicks will hatch ove the following 5 days – all you need is just a clear space at home of at least 80cm long x 50cm deep near a power point.

Over the first few days of thier arrival, you will start to hear small “cheeping” noises coming from inside the eggs, this means the chicks are making their way out into the world! The chicks will hatch at all different times, giving the kids plenty of time for observation . after hatching, the chicks will need to be transferred into the brooder box we provided upon delivery . This box contains their food and everything else the chicks will need for the rest of their stay with you.

Over the following 10 days, enjoy handling the chicks, watching them grow and caring for them. You can opt to keep the chickens at the end of the 2 weeks program, or we will come and collect them and the equipment .
